Chelsea boss breaks silence on Mason Mount future amid Manchester United transfer links

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has had his say on Mason Mount’s future amid speculation linking him with Manchester United.

The 24-year-old is approaching the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge with no resolution on the horizon. The standoff has prompted transfer talk given Chelsea could cash in on the midfielder this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Manchester United have been mentioned as a possible interested party in recent days with Erik ten Hag keen to strengthen his midfield in the summer. Whether a move for Mount materialises remains to be seen, while Chelsea boss Potter said the England international was happy in the capital.

"He's just like everyone else; he wants to play," said Potter. "At the moment he is suffering with a slight injury, so he probably needs a little bit more time before he's available properly.

"He is happy around the place and wants to help the team, that is normal with Mason. He wants the team to hep the team, wants to win, be injury free and play football."

On the contract talks, Potter added: "It's between the club and Mason. I've spoken to him several times about life in general. My feelings for Mason are clear and I think he's a fantastic person. But sometimes these things happen. There complicated and it's best I speak little about it.

"I'm not naive and I know it's an important contract for him. These things have to be right for him and his family and it's important he makes the right choice for him."
