Chelsea: Boehly now 'seriously' considering hiring 58 y/o at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is set to hold ‘further meetings’ as he looks to appoint a new sporting director at Stamford Bridge and the links to Luis Campos should be taken ‘seriously’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Boehly made a key decision last week when he decided to sack head coach Thomas Tuchel and named Graham Potter as his successor, but it appears the American is looking to make another alteration behind the scenes.

According to The Times, Chelsea are interested in hiring Campos as their new sporting director and Boehly has already held discussions with the Portuguese.

The report suggests Potter, who won 43 of his 134 matches in charge of Brighton & Hove Albion before heading to west London, underlined the importance of filling the role while he was in talks with the Blues.

It is understood that the new Chelsea boss will have a say on who is unveiled as the club’s sporting director and Boehly is aiming to make an appointment before the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Campos is currently working as an advisor at Paris Saint-Germain, having moved into the role in June, and is overseeing the reigning Ligue 1 champions’ recruitment.

The 58-year-old has previously held behind the scenes roles at Real Madrid, Monaco, Lille, Galatasaray and Celta Vigo.

Jones understands that Boehly is preparing to hold further discussions over who should become Chelsea’s new sporting director.

The journalist has questioned whether Campos could have been identified as a short-term option as alternatives have also been identified.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think there’s still further meetings to come. The Luis Campos one, I do think we should that take seriously.

“But I do wonder if that might be one that could be an interim solution
