Chelsea: Boehly 'not ruling out' shock move for £190k-a-week star

Chelsea target Harry Maguire is not one of the club’s primary names, but Todd Boehly refuses to rule the Blues out of signing anyone, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are being linked with a shock move for the Manchester United defender and Jones reckons that Boehly’s influence means a deal can’t be disregarded.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea made an ‘enquiry’ about Maguire’s availability, with his future at Old Trafford currently in doubt.

The 6 foot 4 defender’s form has dipped over the last 18 months, culminating in him being dropped for United’s win over Liverpool on Monday.

The report claims that Wesley Fofana remains the club’s top target, although Maguire could be seen as an alternative, with Chelsea yet to match Leicester’s £85m asking price for the young Frenchman.

Despite Maguire’s struggles, he still has just under three years remaining on his £190,000 per-week contract, which means he would cost the Blues a fair bit to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

And while Jones refuses to rule out a deal for the ex-Leicester City man, he believes that Maguire isn’t top of Thomas Tuchel’s summer wish list.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Maguire is definitely not one of Chelsea’s prime targets for this window but when names are proposed to Todd Boehly in any discussions with any clubs or agents, he refuses to rule anything out.”

While Chelsea are in desperate need of central defenders, highlighted by their abysmal showing at Leeds on Sunday, where Reece James started at right centre back and Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off, it’s unlikely that Manchester United would sell him to one of their top-six rivals.
