Chelsea: Boehly eyeing 'marquee signing' at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea‘s new owners want to make at least one marquee signing this summer, claims Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The west London club were taken over by a consortium led by LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, and Brown says they want to bring in a big-name player in the upcoming transfer window.

On Monday, Chelsea confirmed that the club had been bought by Boehly’s consortium following Roman Abramovich’s decision to sell up after being sanctioned by the UK government.

Following the purchase of the former European champions, Boehly said: “We are honoured to become the new custodians of Chelsea Football Club. We’re all in – 100% – every minute of every match. Our vision as owners is clear: we want to make the fans proud.

“Along with our commitment to developing the youth squad and acquiring the best talent, our plan of action is to invest in the club for the long-term and build on Chelsea’s remarkable history of success.”

Brown is now expecting the club’s new owners to make one marquee signing this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the Daily Star journalist said: “All the indications are that the new owners at Chelsea want to make at least one marquee signing, but the idea is they don’t want to spend a whole wad of cash on one player.

“I don’t think there will be a huge amount of cash for Chelsea to spend. Some of it will depend on who is sold first.”

One name that continues to come up is West Ham midfielder and former Chelsea youth player Declan Rice, with transfer insider Dean Jones recently telling GMS that the Blues have discussed bringing him in.
