Chelsea: £70m star wants 'dream move' to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are set for a crucial week in their pursuit of Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

Fofana is the Blues’ primary centre-back target this summer, although they saw their latest bid rejected and are yet to meet Leicester’s asking price.

Having seen their opening two offers knocked back, Chelsea launched a third, two days after Fofana was left out of the Leicester squad for their game with Southampton as he was not in the right ‘frame of mind’ to play.

But the Midlands outfit once again turned down the bid, which was around £70m in total, with £60m up front and £10m in add-ons.

Leicester are looking for around £85m, which would be a world record fee for a defender, but Chelsea are yet to front up the required cash.

Fofana didn’t feature in their Carabao Cup game at Stockport on Tuesday and manager Brendan Rodgers revealed that he’s currently training with the Under-23s after skipping a session last week.

Rodgers also said that he wants the situation resolved as quickly as possible, with Leicester struggling on the pitch following just one point from their opening three Premier League games.

And Brown reckons the coming days could be key for Chelsea and wouldn’t be shocked to see the Blues look elsewhere in a bid to make Leicester blink first.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it’s a crucial week for Fofana. Don’t be surprised if Chelsea approach another defender or two, even if that’s a negotiating tactic to put a bit of pressure on.

“It’s pretty clear Fofana wants to go to Chelsea, he apparently sees it as a dream move.”

Despite Fofana being their top priority, they do have other options if they’re unable to agree a fee with Leicester.
