Chelsea 3-0 AC Milan: Sergino Dest involved in bizarre second half moment

Sergino Dest played the full 90 minutes in AC Milan‘s 3-0 humbling at the hands of Chelsea in the Champions League group stage.

The Italian champions’ trip to west London certainly didn’t go according to plan, with Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James grabbing the goals for the hosts.

Aside from a few moments of quality in the first half, mainly from talisman Rafael Leao, Milan were firmly second-best at Stamford Bridge.

Dest and fellow full-back Fode Ballo-Toure were two of the Rossoneri’s poorest performers on the night and it’s bizarre neither of them were subbed off by manager Stefano Pioli.

Neither player looked assured at the back, while they also weren’t much of a threat going forward.

Dest has initially struggled at Milan since joining the club on loan from Barcelona in the summer and he was involved in a rather bizarre moment during the second half against Chelsea.

While Milan were trailing 3-0, the American bizarrely decided to handle the ball in the middle of the pitch in a bid to take a quick free-kick.

The big problem with that? The referee hadn’t blown his whistle to indicate an infraction from the clash between Raheem Sterling and Ballo-Toure a few seconds earlier.

So the official in charge had no option but to correctly award a free-kick in Chelsea’s favour for handball instead.

It sounds like something that shouldn’t happen in a professional setting, but trust us, it did…

As malfunctions on a football pitch go, that’s right up there with the funniest in recent memory.

But everyone makes mistakes and Dest certainly has the skill set required to be a huge hit at Milan in the near future.

The 23-year-old defender
