Chelmsford City fans refuse to buy season tickets in protest to current ownership

Chelmsford City supporters are threatening 'drastic options' as part of their protests against the current ownership of the club. Fans of the Vanarama National League South side have been growing frustrated at off the field matters and have appealed to chairman Steve Shore for greater engagement.

Mr Shore, a director at Chelmsford City Racecourse, has been chairman of the club since 2017, following a takeover by Betsi Ltd. He has said he's disappointed to hear of the protests, but thinks the club is taking positive steps to increase it's fan base and income.

Discontent has reached boiling point, with the Chelmsford City Supporters Club now appealing for fans to delay buying their season tickets ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Jordan McManus, chairman of the fan group, told Essex Live: "You would think that in the immediate term this will cause a small cashflow issue, but it's probably something they will be able to manage with. It's a statement to say that fewer people will be turning up and coming into the ground. It should make the club aware that supporters are voting with their feet and that they can no longer be taken for granted.

"People have grievances which need to be listened to and addressed rather than brushed under the carpet. Steve Shore should be looking to engage with supporters and arranging a question and answer session. He needs to get the opinions of not just me and the supporters club, but invite all supporters to express their views so they can feel part of the club."
