Cheetahs lose Bok Oupa Mohoje till early 2023 following 3-week ban

The Cheetahs will be without the services Springbok Oupa Mohoje after the flanker received a three-week suspension following foul play in their Challenge Cup win over Pau.

Mohoje was cited for a tackle on Pau centre Yvan Reilhac.

The disciplinary committee comprising Marcello d'Orey (Portugal), Matthew O'Grady (England) and Tony Wheat (Ireland) considered video imagery of the incident and heard submissions from Mohoje.

He accepted that he had committed an act of foul play that warranted a red card.

After consideration, the committee decided to amend the charge to one of dangerous play at a ruck or maul in contravention of Law 9.20 - a player must not charge into a ruck or maul.

The committee found that Mohoje had committed an act of foul play that warranted a red card.

Due to the player's clear disciplinary record and guilty plea, the committee decided to grant him the full 50% mitigation. It reduced the sanction by three weeks before imposing a three-week suspension.

The Cheetahs will now be without the services of Mohoje for clashes against Scarlets this coming Saturday.

Mohoje can return to action from 9 January if he takes part in a coaching intervention class from World Rugby.

The Cheetah's match against Scarlets kicks off at 17:15 on Saturday.
