Charlton Athletic midfielder Jeremy Santos rejoins Tonbridge Angels on loan until the end of the season

Tonbridge have pulled off a great bit of business before tomorrow's transfer deadline as they fight for a National South play-off place.

Midfielder Jeremy Santos has returned to Longmead on loan from Charlton for the rest of the season in a big boost to Angels’ hopes of breaking into the top seven.

They're currently just a point outside the play-offs in ninth place after drawing 1-1 at Havant on Saturday.

Santos was in fine form before his original spell was cut short by a torn hamstring last November.

Having regained fitness, the 20-year-old pushed to rejoin Tonbridge over a number of other loan options.

“If he’d kept going the way he was before his injury, he was probably in with a shout of being our player-of-the-season,” said Tonbridge manager Jay Saunders.

“To be fair, he was pushing for the deal to happen.

“He had quite a few clubs in for him but he insisted to Charlton he wanted to come back to Tonbridge.

“It speaks volumes that he’s gone away and was so keen to come back. It shows we're doing something right.

“I’ve been honest with him and told him he’ll have to win his shirt back and he understands that.

“I just feel at this stage of the season, when we’re trying to get in the play-offs, it certainly gives us more competition for the run-in and I’m delighted to have him back.

“He’s proved his fitness. He played two 90 minutes last week and he’d been playing before that as well. It’s really good news for us.”

Santos will be available for Tonbridge’s home game against struggling Hungerford on Saturday.
