Charles Leclerc backs Ferrari to avoid repeating Monaco pit mistakes

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has backed his team to avoid making the same mistakes that saw him miss out on victory at the Monaco Grand Prix last time out.

The Scuderia have had a fine start to the season but in the last couple of races they have seen Leclerc suffer with a reliability issue in Spain knocking him out of the lead and the entire Grand Prix, before a botched pit call left him losing the lead in Monaco to only come home fourth.

Indeed, in that time he has seen Max Verstappen take the lead in the Drivers’ standings and Sergio Perez close to being just six points behind, and he knows that many more mistakes this season could cost him the title.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, though, Leclerc revealed that he and the team are confident they will not repeat their Monte Carlo errors and, indeed, predicted that stronger races are ahead:

“We need to make everything perfect, Monaco was a mistake, we’ve analysed it as a team really well and I believe these mistakes won’t happen again because we understood the reasons for them and that’s the most important thing.

“Now we are looking forward and as a team we are stronger and I’m sure other strong races will come our way.”

Ferrari certainly need to respond after seeing Red Bull steal a march on them in recent races.

The Scuderia haven’t won a Grand Prix since Australia back in April, with the Bulls winning in Imola, Miami, Spain and Monaco last time out.

Momentum is with Red Bull, then, but this season has shown that can soon change and the Prancing Horse will be hoping we get another demonstration of that soon.
