Change in transfer tactic could solve two problems for Pep Guardiola and Man City next season
Last week Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said that the Blues would be making at least one more signing this transfer window, and if the latest reports are anything to go by, then that could well be Marc Cucurella.
City will welcome attackers Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez to the Etihad Stadium this summer, after their moves from Borussia Dortmund and River Plate respectively. However, Pep Guardiola is thought to be keen on recruiting a new left-back and midfielder. The need for a new midfielder is clear after Fernandinho left the club at the end of the season, but the situation at left-back is a little more uncertain.
Joao Cancelo has been brilliant in that role, but his right-footedness forfeits width on the left flank. Oleksandr Zinchenko has been a superb deputy, but he could be tempted to leave should he be promised regular minutes elsewhere.

City are interested in Brighton's Cucurella, a Spanish full-back who the Seagulls signed from Getafe a year ago. While Brighton would no doubt demand a hefty fee for a 23-year-old who is under contract for another four years, the latest reports suggest that City could make a rare departure from their usual transfer strategy with the benefits being two-fold.
One report claims that City could use James McAtee as a makeweight in a deal, sending him on loan to Brighton for the 2022/23 campaign as well as offering around £40million. At first, it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense - City don't send their most talented youngsters out on loan, and they rarely conduct player-plus-cash deals. However, upon closer inspection, such an arrangement could suit all parties,
