Chance to make history the fire underneath Sheffield Wednesday's form and push up League One

The opportunity for the current crop of Sheffield Wednesday players to write their names into club folklore is something that is inspiring the promotion push, according to Liam Palmer.

The Owls have really re-affirmed their position as one of the strongest teams in League One in recent weeks with five wins from their last six matches.

They are yet to have broken into the play-off places but they are within touching distance and are only a few points from the two automatic promotion positions. Anything less than a return to the Championship will be seen by most Wednesday supporters as a disappointment and that feeling is echoed within the playing staff.

Palmer admitted that promotion has always been the aim this season and that it can achieved if he and his team mates stick to what Darren Moore has implemented at Hillsborough. When asked whether they see this season as a chance to make history at the club, the Wednesday defender replied: “I think yeah, for sure.

“The players that have come here have come here for a reason and like the manager’s touched on in meetings before, we’ve all come together for a time such as this. He’s brought us all here to achieve the best we can and, for him and our minds, that’s getting promotion out of this league, something we’ve set out to do from day one.

“I think now we’re on a good run of form and hopefully that can continue. The vision and the preparation for how we want to work never really changes and it’s more being able to put what the manager is saying into practice and all buying into what he wants us to do.”
