Championship round-up: Michael Obafemi backs up Republic of Ireland senior stance with brace for Swansea

Michael Obafemi bagged a most timely brace to help Swansea to a 3-2 victory over Peterborough in Wednesday's Championship encounter.

The Republic of Ireland striker reportedly turned down an Under-21 call-up this week from manager Jim Crawford, stating that he was only interested in a senior call-up.

And the striker's recent good form continued at the Weston Homes Stadium as Obafemi scored a goal in each half in the important league win.

Stephen Kenny is set to name the squad for Ireland's upcoming double-header with Belgium and Lithuania and will surely have been impressed by Obafemi's form, most notably his double at Peterborough.

Swansea hot-shot Joel Piroe struck a dramatic added-time winner as City snatched a 3-2 success that dealt a heart-breaking blow to Peterborough's survival hopes. Fellow Ireland hopeful, Sammie Szmodics, was on the scoresheet for Posh.
