Championship round-up: Luke McNally winner sees Bristol City move up to eighth

Luke McNally's first-half strike proved enough for Bristol City to maintain their recent impressive home form with a 1-0 Championship victory over Derby at Ashton Gate.

The former St Patrick's Athletic defender got on the end of a chipped free-kick in the 19th minute and volleyed home from close range to help his side secure all three points as the Robins move up to eighth place in the table, just three points outside the play-off places.

"We have a great group of lads and the response to the late setback at Plymouth was fantastic," said City manager Liam Manning after the game. "Luke McNally conceded a soft late free-kick there and today he has come up with the winning goal."

Kamara opened the scoring before Ao Tanaka equalised from edge of the penalty area for Leeds after 47 minutes.

Dan James seized upon desperate defending to put the visitors ahead with Joel Piroe adding a third. But Joao Pedro dragged Hull back into the game with nine minutes to go before Kamara stole a point in the 89th minute.

Burnley are now just one point behind Leeds after they got the better of East Lancashire rivals Blackburn with a 1-0 triumph at Ewood Park.

In a match of few chances, the telling moment came in the 60th minute with the game's first effort on target through Zian Flemming’s diving header.

Sheffield United are also just one point off the pace after a superb Andre Brooks curler reignited their automatic promotion challenge with a 2-1 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road.
