Chambers hasn’t had best start at Villa
Calum Chambers joined Aston Villa on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Arsenal in January and has gone on to make six appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal. He’s been on the winning team just twice and has kept clean sheets in two games also.
The 27-year-old took little time to earn himself a starting place, featuring in five of Villa’s six Premier League games between February and March, but he was dropped by Steven Gerrard after March’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.
Chambers has been an unused substitute in Villa’s last three league games, as he’s behind Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa in the pecking order. But with the Midlands outfit suffering three consecutive defeats and conceding seven goals, might the former Gunner return to the starting lineup?
Chambers won’t be enjoying life in the Midlands right now, but he might be given an opportunity soon. Villa need to arrest their slide and the inconsistent defence has been a problem for most of the season, so change might yield a different result.
Gerrard’s men lock horns with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on April 23, but time will tell who starts at centre-back.
