Celtic unlock hidden Champions League cash cow as Slovan annihilation escalates £40m bonanza

Celtic racked up the goals to kick off their Champions League campaign – and the goal-fest has only added to the surging windfall the Hoops will take home from Europe's elite competition.

Brendan Rodgers watched his side thump Slovan Bratislava with the five different goalscorers each adding to the massive prize pot heading to Glasgow's east end. Liam Scales was the first man on the score sheet and Kyogo’s strike early in second half put Celtic on the road to victory. Record-breaking signing Arne Engels continued his impressive early form in green and white when he netted from the penalty spot before Daizen Maeda added a fourth and substitute Adam Idah completed the rout.

A lesser known UEFA pay out is of £252k per goal scored on the night - gifting the Scottish champions a £1.26m payday. Coupled with the £1.7m the club gets for a win in the league phase, their tally from one night's work is taken to almost £3m.

The result only adds to the bumper payday that Celtic have been set to land - which is set to surge well beyond the £40m mark. The Hoops are handed £15.7m just for reaching the group phase.
