Celtic transfer news bulletin as Sydney van Hooijdonk 'interest' emerges while Benfica consider Paulo Bernardo solution

Benfica are reportedly weighing up the options for Paulo Bernardo with Celtic looking to push through a loan for the playmaker.

The Portugal under 21 cap is not in boss Roger Schmidt's first-team plans for the new season and could make the move to the Scottish Premiership champions ahead of the transfer deadline. The midfielder is understood to have a huge £90m buy-out clause in his contract – which runs until 2027. But Record Sport believes Benfica would be willing to renegotiate a purchase option in 12 months.

The highly-rated 21-year-old was tipped as a star of the future when part of Benfica’s B team and made the breakthrough into the senior side in 2021. Lisbon outlet Record report that Benfica have multiple loan options on the table for the star - including Celtic - and are looking for a suitable "solution" for the new campaign to allow the academy graduate to progress.

It is noted that a permanent move is unlikely at this point. However, an option to buy could be added to any loan exit this summer.

But Brendan Rodgers doesn't look to be done with his business - with Luis Palma expected to arrive in the door imminently. Mathias Kvistgaarden looks to be off due to Brondby's skyrocketing asking price but Sky Sports Germany report another frontman could make a move to Glasgow's east end.
