Celtic to pay tribute to Donegal explosion victims

Celtic will wear black armbands and have a moment of silence ahead of their Champions League clash with RB Leipzig, in memory of the ten people who lost their lives in Creeslough, Co Donegal on Friday.

The Hoops welcome the German side to Celtic Park on Tuesday for matchday four of their European campaign and confirmed that they will pay tribute to those who died in last week's explosion.

A statement from the club on twitter read: "A period of silence will be held prior to the #CelticRBLeipzig kick-off tomorrow and the players will wear black armbands during the game, in memory of the 10 people who tragically lost their lives in Creeslough, County Donegal on Friday."

Ten people - four men, three women and three young people - will be laid to rest in the days ahead. They ranged in age from five to 59.

The first of the funeral services - of Jessica Gallagher and Martin McGill - will take place tomorrow.

Father John Joe Duffy said people are "full of grief", adding that the initial numbness, shock and adrenaline "is beginning to wear off".

"The enormity of the tragedy is becoming clearer and clearer," he said.

"As the first victim of the tragedy was brought home you saw people along the road and candles being lit along the road, and when you saw a beautiful young person coming home... it just began more and more to dawn on people."
