Celtic suffer Rangers injury worry as star hobbles off on international duty ahead of Ibrox showdown

Coatbridge's Stephen Welsh has suffered an injury scare ahead of Sunday's huge match between Celtic and Rangers on international duty.

The defender led the Scotland's u21s out against Kazakhstan this afternoon but hobbled off shortly after half-time with a suspected groin injury.

It will be a concern for the Lanarkshire star ahead of a return to club level, where Celtic will be hoping to strike a huge blow in Rangers' Premiership title defence.

The Hoops will be aiming to make a six-point gap in first at Ibrox and Welsh will no doubt want to be involved.

It hasn't gone to plan for Scotland's youngsters over this international break, drawing 2-2 with Kazakhstan in a UEFA u21s Championship qualifier after holding a two-goal lead.

Ross Graham put Scott Gemmill's side ahead off a Welsh assist, before Tom Clayton doubled their lead. Yerkebulan Seidakhmet's strike and a 95th minute Abilayhan Zhumabek goal levelled proceedings in challenging weather.

Turkey inflicted a 2-0 defeat upon them at Tynecastle last week.
