Celtic now gifted late injury boost before Livingston as reporter relays news on 'brilliant' ace

Celtic winger Mikey Johnston is back in training ahead of the trip to Livingston this lunchtime, John McGinley has reported.

The 22-year-old has been struck by multiple injury issues in recent years and hasn’t really made an impact under Ange Postecoglou this season.

Johnston has started just five games in all competitions in 2021/22, with his most recent coming against Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup last month. He had to make way just before the hour mark in that game with an ankle problem, though, and hasn’t been seen since.

McGinley took to Twitter on Friday evening ahead of the Hoops’ trip to Livingston on Sunday lunchtime.

He shared news of Johnston returning to the training pitch following his recent ankle issue, stating: “Mikey Johnston is back in Celtic training after picking up an injury vs Raith Rovers.”

Celtic have struggled in stages over their last three games, scoring just twice and failing to break down Bodo/Glimt and Hibernian in respective away fixtures.

Therefore, having Johnston – who has been hailed as ‘brilliant’ by Callum McGregor – back in training is a handy boost for Postecoglou. With 11 goals in 78 Hoops appearances and a match average of 2.1 shots and 1.3 successful dribbles this season, the winger can be trusted to make an impact.

You’d expect that he won’t feature from the off today, but if he is fit enough, he could be a good option to have on the bench, with the likes of Jota and Liel Abada playing plenty of football in recent weeks.
