Celtic make 'positive move' amid Parkhead negotiations

Celtic will have made a ‘positive move’ if they can tempt first-team coach Gavin Strachan into penning a new contract at Parkhead, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Bhoys may be closing in on the Scottish Premiership title, but it appears they have already turned their attentions towards convincing Strachan to commit his long-term future to the club.

Strachan headed to Celtic to become their first-team coach in June 2020, leading to then-manager Neil Lennon claiming it was a ‘brilliant appointment’.

Although an alteration in the dugout saw Ange Postecoglou take charge of the Bhoys last summer, after failing to claim a 10th consecutive top flight crown, Strachan remained at Parkhead.

According to Football Insider, Celtic have opened talks over an extended contract with Strachan.

The report suggests the 43-year-old is highly-regarded by the club and all parties are hopeful an agreement can be reached.

Former Scotland boss Alex McLeish has claimed keeping Strachan as a member of Postecoglou’s backroom staff was a ‘coup’ and Celtic’s success has shown it was the correct decision.

O’Rourke has urged the Celtic hierarchy to put a fresh contract on the table and persuade Strachan to sign it.

The journalist believes it is in the Scottish Premiership title-chasers’ best interests to keep Strachan at Parkhead for a long time to come.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it would be a positive move for Celtic. It would just keep that continuity within the coaching group right now.

“If they can agree a new contract, it will just keep things ticking over nicely for everybody involved there.”
