Celtic made Caoimhin Kelleher transfer favourites as Liverpool keeper tells Anfield club he wants out

The bookies have installed Celtic as the favourites to sign Caoimhin Kelleher.

The Liverpool keeper admits he wants to leave Anfield in order to go and be first choice somewhere else. The Reds have agreed a £29million deal with Valencia to sign Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will arrive at Anfield next summer and compete with current No 1 Alisson Becker for gloves.

That leaves Kelleher as third choice and seems to have strengthened his resolve to seek a move. Kelleher had been linked with an exit this summer after Jurgen Klopp's departure and the Merseyside club reportedly knocked back bids for the Irish international. Celtic were one club linked but Liverpool's £15million price tag proved prohibitive. Brendan Rodgers reunited with former Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel and signed Aston Villa's Viljami Sinisalo as back up.

However, Schmeichel only penned a one-year deal and at 37, isn't a long term option. Kelleher wold likely still appeal to the Hoops if a deal could be done, and his public desire to leave may weaken Liverpool's position, while Slot may be keener to move him on come next June.

"I've made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a number one and play week in, week out," said Kelleher. The club's made that decision to get another goalkeeper and from the outside looking in, it looks like they've made a decision to go in a different direction.

"Sometimes from the outside looking in, it looks like that's 100% my decision but at times it's not always in my hands. It's been reported that Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. My ambition is clear that I think I'm good enough and I want to go out and prove it."
