Celtic hold Kieran Tierney transfer trump card as Arsenal contract quirk unlocks asking price edge over Newcastle
Newcastle United could be seen off by Celtic in their pursuit of in-demand Kieran Tierney - with Arsenal reportedly offering the Scottish champions at cut-price deal.
The Scotland star is behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in the Arsenal first-team picture and looks to be edging closer to the Emirates exit door this summer with regular game time under Mikel Arteta limited. Eddie Howe is reportedly tracking a move for Tierney with Newcastle in dire need of reinforcements in left-back - but reports south of the border suggest the 26-year-old would prefer a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic Park.
It would be a huge spend by Celtic to bring the academy graduate back to Parkhead this summer - who left in 2019 for £25million - but with Rodgers looking to make a mark on the Champions League next term it could be the landmark deal the Irishman is looking for. Tierney is reportedly willing to take a wage cut to make a move to the Scottish Premiership - and the Newcastle Chronicle have named another advantage the Hoops hold over the Magpies in the tug of war.
Celtic hold a 15 per cent sell-on clause in Tierney's contract should he leave the Gunners this summer. The Tyneside outlet claim that "a cut-price deal" could be negotiated between the Glasgow side and Arsenal due to the sell-on clause.
It could be yet another for Newcastle. Reports have already suggested 'Howe will have to trim his squad before further spending this summer - while Celtic hold a bumper transfer kitty after selling Jota to Al-Ittihad.
