Celtic get a chuckle out of Rangers again but champions have their own construction job that needs fixing

There's always a temptation to look over the fence in Glasgow and peek at what the neighbours are up to.

Celtic fans have the periscopes out for a nosey at what’s going on with Rangers and are having a chuckle as the state of the Ibrox garden. Gers boss Philippe Clement has enough to do with rebuilding his team without the hassle of a construction drama with the stadium. Rangers looking for digs for the first month of the season is a nightmare for the boss.

He has to try to negotiate a couple of Champions League qualifiers plus a few home games of the domestic campaign – and that’s before he goes to Celtic Park. That’s home advantage up in smoke and the cost of all this carry on could hit his spending plans. Gers will need to figure out how to get into Murrayfield or Hampden but neither option is going to be straightforward. Hampden could have a new pitch laid pronto but who knows if it will be in decent nick in time?

Murrayfield is a nice gaff but it’s no football stadium. If fans think they are far away from the action in Mount Florida just wait until they get a taste of the rugger digs. And they’d also need to stump up to get VAR in there sharpish. Clement has been busy in the transfer market but not many of the new recruits look like they’ll walk straight into the starting XI.

Celtic fans may find this amusing when most summers there’s a burst of blind optimism out of Ibrox. Not this time. Not yet anyway. Rangers fans are pulling out their hair.

But the powers-that-be at Parkhead can’t get wrapped up in this carry on. While it might be tempting to assume the chaos across the city makes their task easier, it’s about time Celtic ignored what their rivals are up to and focused on important stuff. Like getting ready
