Celtic fans show Palestine support as hundreds of flags held up at Tynecastle

There may be only around 570 of them inside Tynecastle, but the Celtic fans made their support for Palestine clear.

A reduced travelling support made the journey to the capital for the Sunday afternoon Premiership clash. And they were rewarded with an excellent early Matt O'Riley goal to put the champions ahead after just three minutes against Hearts. But before the game kicked off, the whole away section held up mini Palestine flags to show their support for those in the region.

War is raging after a Hamas terrorist attack prompted a strong response from Israel. many have been forced to leave their homes in the Gaza strip, while those who remain have been cut off from electricity and water supplies. The Hoops support have long displayed Palestine flags at games, but this was done en masse given the situation in the region right now.

The Green Brigade, who have been banned by Celtic, are not in attendance. But they showed their support in the recent home win over Kilmarnock. That sparked an angry response from former Celtic star Nir Bitton, who accused those involved of "supporting terrorism".

A similar display to today's has been planned for Tuesday night's game against Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone's side are in Glasgow for matchday three of the Champions League.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers revealed he had a chat with Israeli international Liel Abada earlier this week about what's happening in his homeland. The winger isn't invoveld against the Jambos.
