Celtic 'expected to sign' £6m star who 'wants' Parkhead move

Celtic are expected to complete the signing of Benfica winger Jota, according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph.

The Scottish champions have been in talks with the Portuguese outfit over a permanent deal for a number of months and despite a delay in announcing his arrival, Joseph is confident it’ll still happen.

Having enjoyed a fine loan spell in the Scotland, in which he helped Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title and League Cup, Ange Postecoglou has been desperate to extend Jota’s stay at Parkhead.

In fact, back in January, the Hoops were hoping to seal a permanent deal for the 23-year-old, who scored 13 goals and laid on 14 assists in all competitions, which meant that no Celtic player was directly involved in more goals.

Last month, Celtic then finally appeared to have reached a breakthrough with Benfica when Sky Sports reported that Jota was ‘closing in’ on a switch to Glasgow in a £6m deal after the club activated an option-to-buy.

That update was more than two weeks ago and while Postecoglou’s side are yet to officially confirm the deal, Joseph remains confident that Jota will eventually become a Hoops player.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think there’s any issues holding it up, other than perhaps Jota being on holiday, that’s probably it.

“I do expect it to go through. What we know is that Jota has told Benfica that he wants to join Celtic, he sees his future at Celtic and can see his progression in Glasgow.”
