Celtic clash at Lennoxtown lined up for East Kilbride as pitch to be relayed

East Kilbride boss Kevin Rutckiewicz has revealed the Lowland League club will play a Celtic XI at Lennoxtown this summer as part of their pre-season preparations.

And the club will play almost all of their pre-season clashes away from home as the pitch at their home ground at K-Park is being relayed.

Kilby return for pre-season training on June 13 to begin building towards the 2022/23 Lowland League campaign and their schedule is starting to shape-up with a trip to the Hoops' training complex set for Saturday, July 2.

Before that the club are due to face West of Scotland Football League side Forth Wanderers, with June 25 pencilled in for that clash.

Rutkiewicz told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "We've got a couple of pre-season friendlies lined up so far.

"We play Celtic at Lennoxtown on July 2.

"Our park is getting relayed over the summer so we are on the prowl for away games.

"We've got Forth Wanderers on the last weekend of June as well and we are getting a few bits and pieces organised beyond that."

The clubs have met regularly in pre-season in recent years and only once have they faced the first team, coming in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup in February 2016 when Ronny Deila's Hopps ran out 2-0 winners at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie.

Last season Kilby played the Celtic B team twice in the Lowland League, drawing 1-1 away in July 2021 and losing 3-0 at home in December last year.
