Celtic B draw for Albion Rovers in gaffer's 50th game at helm

Sandy Clark marked his 50th game in charge of Albion Rovers by stopping their pointless streak against B teams in the Lowland League this season.

But he was left frustrated after failing to fully end their hoodoo in a 1-1 draw with Celtic B.

Rovers looked to be on course for a first win over a Premiership reserve outfit when Niyah Joseph’s first half penalty put them 1-0 at home to the young Hoops on Saturday.

However, Ben Quinn equalised for the visitors 12 minutes from time to deny ninth-place Rovers that elusive victory.

It leaves Rovers with a point from a possible 12 against Celtic and Hearts B in the fifth tier this term.

Clark said: “One of the boxes we wanted to tick before the end of the season was to beat one of the B teams because it is a different challenge and a different model, as they have really good young players, Hearts and Celtic.

“I was really pleased with the performance and I thought we deserved to win the match, but we had to settle for a draw out of it, which is something.

“It breaks that hoodoo of not getting any points from them and, hopefully, that will set us up for next season against them.

“You’ve got to look at how you play against these younger teams because they are very quick, they build from the back and they are obviously full time footballers, so their fitness is really good.

“I thought we matched them very well fitness-wise, although one or two tired towards the end.

“The guys put the plan into place well in terms of when and when not to press them.

“We played a lot of good football and their goalkeeper had more saves to make than ours.
