Celtic and Rangers guard of honour debate rages on as Hotline claim 'Simply the Best' should be blared for the champions
Celtic detractors on the Hotline have taken a fresh swipe at their Champions League performances after the last of the Hoops' opponents in this year's competition were dumped out.
Aston Villa and Bayern Munich have both been eliminated at the quarter-final stage, prompting some Hotline callers to scoff at suggestions that the Bundesliga giants would go on to lift their seventh European Cup after edging past Celtic with the last kick of the game in the play-off round.
Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, wrote: "I notice that all of Celtic's Champions League opponents are out, so much for them going out to the potential champions.
"It's just as well for the Scottish coefficient that they got drawn against the two worst teams in Champions League history or things could easily have been a lot worse for their coefficient.
"Rangers may only be in the Europa League, but the number of teams they played still in Europe speaks volumes about Rangers' achievements this season."
However, Celtic punter Robert Mcewan, Mt Vernon, has sent a timely reminder that his team still have the last say when it comes to talking about the Old Firm's pedigree in Europe.
He said: "The clowns who come on Hotline constantly on about Celtic's failures in Europe? That wee star above our crest tells you some teams will never have that and in the present day how great is it to be a Celtic fan."
If the Hoops avoid defeat to Dundee Utd in their first post-split fixture, then they will head to Ibrox the following week as champions.
