Celtic and Rangers clashes will bring the best out in us, says Motherwell No.2

Brian Kerr knows Motherwell face a massive month in October with a double header against Celtic and a clash with Rangers among some huge tests on the horizon.

But the Fir Park assistant boss insists tough runs always bring out the best in the Steelmen and they don’t fear their rivals.

Steven Hammell’s ‘Well return from the international break with a daunting trip to Parkhead on Saturday, followed by a re-arranged clash at Ross County on Tuesday night.

A trip to the capital to face Hibs is up next on October 8 before Gers come calling on October 16.

Three days later Motherwell host the Hoops in the quarter-final of the Premier Sports Cup, then see the month out with the visit of Aberdeen on October 22 and a trip to Tannadice to play Dundee United on October 29.

But No.2 Kerr insisted: “We know over the course of October there is a really tough run but we’ve proven in the past that tough runs are where Motherwell seem to do really well.

“It’s going to be a test and we need to make sure everybody is fighting for their place.

“It’s important we keep picking up positive results over the next few weeks and it is the old cliché of taking one game at a time, seeing where we are.

“These are the games the players look forward to, the games they want to be part of and hopefully we go and give a good account of ourselves so that going into November, we’re in a good place.”

Kerr reckons of the two clashes with Celtic, the cup tie at home offers their best chance of picking up a result and he says they aren’t scared of the Premiership leaders.

He added: “We know Celtic have been playing well this season and looking at the Real Madrid match the other week [a 3-0 defeat in the Champions League], they were excellent for most of the game.
