Celtic 4-0 Rangers: Jon McLauglin's calamitous mistake in Old Firm thumping

Rangers goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin dropped a clanger as Celtic ran riot in the Old Firm derby.

Celtic were on top from the first whistle in the Glaswegian clash, taking the lead after just eight minutes and absolutely thumping their city rivals after that.

The damage was done with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side already 3-0 down at half-time and not looking good enough to mount any sort of second half comeback, but McLaughlin’s late error took the afternoon from bad to worse.

Trying to play out from the back from a goal kick with little over 10 minutes to play, Celtic smelled blood and kept their positioning high as the game grew on.

Rangers persisted with trying to build up from deep, though, and were punished for it after having taken a beating all afternoon.

McLaughlin passed the ball out short to his central defenders in the 78th minute before receiving it back with his angles closing down.

Instead of just clearing his lines, the 34-year-old panicked and tried to play the ball short again to Steven Davis, who was clearly marked out of the game.

The ball trundled into the feet of David Turnbull, who intercepted the terrible pass and blasted it home for 4-0, adding a serious misery compiler. Take a look below.

Big mistake for Rangers here
