Castle Douglas river wins Scottish National Mountain Biking Cross Country Championships

Lewis Martin won the Scottish National Mountain Biking Cross Country Championships on Sunday.

The Castle Douglas rider saw off Sam Chisholm in a fierce battle to take the senior men’s title at Ae Forest.

Martin, riding for Studio Velo, said: “It was definitely a tough race, one of the tougher ones of the season. I dropped my chain on the first lap and that was a bit of an issue then I got back in and held on as much as I could with Sam.

"I lost his wheel at one point, but was able to get back on, before the sprint at the end.”

Another Studio Velo rider, Bruce Mccleary, claimed third in the veterans race.

And Sam Barbour from Castle Douglas, riding for Ribble Recharge RT, claimed the bronze in the junior event.
