Carragher claims Klopp made ‘mistake’ ahead of City-Liverpool clash

Jamie Carragher thinks Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made a “mistake” by starting Mo Salah in their victory over Benfica in midweek.

The 29-year-old was part of the Egypt side which lost to Senegal on penalties in the Africa Cup of Nations final in February and the one which lost to Senegal on penalties again last month in a crucial World Cup qualifier.

Salah has struggled to hit top form since he contributed a brace and an assist in a 6-0 thrashing of Leeds United on February 23.

It is now just one goal and one assist in his last eight appearances for Salah, which by his standards is poor, and Carragher reckons Liverpool boss Klopp should’ve rested him before the Reds took on Manchester City yesterday.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: “It’s not just the goals with Mo Salah, he’s had chances, he always will get chances, but his actual general play has been really poor, it has been over the last four to six weeks since those tournaments [AFCON].

“I think it’s a physical thing and a mental thing and he’s got to come out of it really quickly. But I was very surprised he played midweek against Benfica, I really was. I know
