Gerrard admits contract talks surrounding Carney Chukwuemeka's future have broken down again.

The highly-rated Villa teenager was fully expected to sign a new long-term deal on his 18th birthday back in October but, after being in no rush to do so, wanted assurances over his playing time in the Premier League.

Chukwuemeka, 18, has made eight appearances from off the bench for Gerrard since the current boss replaced Dean Smith back in November.

In January, Gerrard issued a blunt response to Chukwuemeka's future and said: "We want him to sign and to extend and reward him for what we've seen so far.

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are said to be keen on the 24-year-old, but BirminghamLive has spoken to those around the player who insist it is Villa where his immediate future lies.

Cash, who scored in Thursday night's 3-0 win at Leeds United, is being eyed up as a potential replacement for Kieran Trippier with Atletico sanctioning the England star's move to Newcastle United in January.
