Carlos Tevez confirms retirement in emotional interview on Argentine TV

Carlos Tevez has confirmed his retirement from football in an emotional interview on Argentine TV.

Speaking on Friday night, the 38-year-old said he could no longer continue his playing career following the death of his father.

Tevez said he’d lost “his number one fan”, Segundo Raimundo, who passed away following complications from Covid-19 in February 2021.

“I have retired, it’s confirmed,” he said, per the Daily Mail. “They offered me many things, including from the United States. But that’s it, I have given everything.

“Playing the last year was very difficult but I was able to see my old man. I stopped playing because I lost my number one fan.”

The interviewer battled to hold back tears as an emotional Tevez spoke openly about the reasons behind his retirement.

Tevez brings the curtain down on an incredible 20-year career, which saw him win trophies in Brazil, England, Italy, China and his native Argentina.

He started and ended his career with Boca Juniors and also earned 76 caps for his country, scoring 13 goals.

Tevez will be remembered by many football fans as one of the greatest forwards of his generation and deservedly so.

But what’s next for the South American?

Despite his love-hate relationship with the business of football, it seems he’s made up his mind to become a manager.

“I made the decision that I’m going to be a manager,” Tevez told Argentine television program Animales Sueltos, per Xinhua News Agency.

“I’m ready to do it now. I’m learning how to communicate. It’s something I have to prepare for. I’m not going to accept a job with any old club and just tell the players they have to win or we’re all in trouble. I have to give the players
