Carlos Pena declares himself Rangers 'saviour' as Ibrox flop shrugs off nightmare spell in bold career reframe

Former Rangers flop Carlos Pena insists he WAS a success during his time at Ibrox as he continues his nomadic career in the Honduran league.

The Mexican international moved to Ibrox in 2017 and managed a respectable four goals in 12 appearances for Pedro Caixinha 's side. Well documented personal problems meant he struggled in the Scottish Premiership and his career went off the rails. Following Caixinha's departure from the Ibrox hot seat, Pena would barely get another look-in for The Light Blues, and was shipped out on loan to Cruz Azul and Necaxa before eventually being released by Rangers.

He has since been on the books at GKS Tychy in Poland, Atletico Veracruzano in his homeland and Balompie Mexicano where he found limited game time, before kick-starting his career in El Salvador with FAS where he claimed a league title. Despite finding form again with FAS, he would quickly move to Guatemalan outfit Antigua but struggled for form.

The 32-year-old is now searching for a career lifeline in Honduras having penned a contract with CDS Vida. He was quizzed on his off-field problems by Honduran outlet TVC, where he listed off some of the top achievements of his career.

Ibrox fans will be surprised to see his time in Scotland make the list. Pena said: "There are no off-field problems, judge me by what I am going to do on the field.

"I am committed as I have done with all the teams. With Chivas, who were in the relegation zone, I saved them. With Rangers, I also saved them and we promoted León.

"FAS were 11 years without being a champion; Antigua was going to be relegated. Judge me for what I am going to do off the pitch."
