Carlos Corberan issues Lee Nicholls Huddersfield verdict

Carlos Corberan has been full of praise for his goalkeeper Lee Nicholls after his form drew calls from Huddersfield supporters for an England call-up.

Lee Nicholls has been one of the signings of the season and arguably a consideration for best goalkeeper in the Championship this season.

The former Wigan and MK Dons stopper is ahead of many goalkeepers for several stats, including clean sheets and total saves and has been one of the stars of the season for the Terriers.

The free transfer summer signing has been a revelation this season, leading to supporters call for him to be called up to the England squad for their latest set of friendlies following several goalkeeping withdrawals.

The call didn’t come, but that didn’t stop Corberan singling out his number one for praise, telling The Examiner: “I’m so pleased to have him, in more than one game now he has been one of the best players in the team, maybe the best.

“This is positive as it means we have a very good goalkeeper, but a negative for me as a coach as sometimes it means the keeper is having to do a lot of work! We try to reduce his impact in the game so he doesn’t have to show the skills that he has as a goalkeeper, which are for me just brilliant.”

Nicholls has kept 15 clean sheets so far this season, one more than his nearest goalkeeping rivals.

The Verdict

Lee Nicholls has been incredible this season. Many wouldn’t have thought he would have the impact he’s had, considering he was number two at MK Dons last season, and started this season behind Ryan Schofield.

However, he’s been incredible since he broke his way into the first team and has been responsible for a large number of the points Huddersfield have won this season.

He deserves the plaudits and it
