Carlos Alcaraz disagrees with John McEnroe claim as he makes Olympics statement

Carlos Alcaraz dismissed John McEnroe's claim that he surpasses Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the age of 21, despite becoming the youngest player to clinch Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces with his victory over Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller at the French Open.

The super Spaniard staged an impressive comeback from 2-1 down in sets to defeat the German powerhouse 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. With his eyes now firmly on defending his Wimbledon crown starting July 1, Alcaraz also aims to emulate Nadal by seizing Olympic gold in France.

Surprisingly Alcaraz values potential Olympic glory this summer higher than a second Wimbledon win. Addressing McEnroe's lofty comparison in an ABC tennis interview, Alcaraz remarked: "I have seen videos, but with some highlights, I cannot compare myself to them when they were my age." He continued, emphasising his ambition: "But it doesn't matter what I have achieved at this age if I stagnate here. I want to continue growing in my career and get to where Djokovic, Rafa and Federer are. The good ones and the greats have continued to improve in their careers until they are still 37 and 38 years old."

Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the World No. 2 and World No. 1 respectively, are shaping up as tennis's next great rivalry, having claimed three of the last four Grand Slams between them. Their epic semi-final clash at Roland Garros saw Alcaraz triumph in a five-set thriller, 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Tennis legend McEnroe was full of praise for Alcaraz after his victories over both Sinner and Alexander Zverev.

McEnroe lauded: "I've got to say this, just for the record, Carlos Alcaraz is my favourite player to watch. He's the most skilled young man I've ever seen playing at this age."
