Carlo Ancelotti tests positive for Covid with son Davide in line to coach Real Madrid as Chelsea tie looms

Carlo Ancelotti could miss the first leg of Real Madrid’s Champions League tie with Chelsea after testing positive for Covid.

Los Blancos confirmed on Wednesday that the Italian coach has come down with the virus, although it is not known if he is suffering from any symptoms.

While isolating at home, Ancelotti is set to miss Madrid’s LaLiga trip to face Celta Vigo on Saturday.

The 62-year-old’s son and assistant, Davide, is set to take charge of the Real team in his father’s absence.

Originally a fitness coach having failed to make the grade as a player, Parma-born Davide Ancelotti joined Paris Saint-Germain under Carlo in 2012 before following his career from then on.

With his father’s move to Bayern Munich, Ancelotti Jr stepped up as assistant coach and has previous in taking temporary charge, having done so at Napoli when Carlo was handed a touchline ban.

Chelsea welcome Real to Stamford Bridge in a week’s time, on April 6. The return leg takes place in Spain six days later.

Madrid’s five-game winning run came to an end ahead of the international break with a 4-0 defeat at home to Barcelona in El Clasico.
