Carlo Ancelotti accused of tax fraud as Real Madrid boss could face nearly FIVE YEARS in prison

Spanish prosecutors have accused Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti of alleged tax fraud.

They claim he hid portions of his income with shell companies during his first time at the club ten years ago. Prosecutors released a statement on Wednesday stating that they are accusing Ancelotti of two counts of tax fraud, which could result in a four-year and nine-month prison sentence. They allege that the Italian coach defrauded €1 million in 2014 and 2015.

They say Ancelotti only reported his income from Real Madrid during these years, not mentioning any income from image rights. They accuse him of creating a "confusing" system of shell companies to hide additional income. The 64 year old Ancelotti coached Madrid from 2013-2015 before returning to the club in 2021. With four Champions League wins and domestic league titles in England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France, Ancelotti is one of football's most successful coaches.

Spain has been cracking down on high-profile football figures who haven't paid their taxes. Former Madrid coach Jose Mourinho received a suspended one-year sentence after pleading guilty to tax fraud in 2019.
