Carling Knockout Cup muscles into Telkom Knockout space in 2023, announces PSL chair

The Telkom Knockout Cup has finally been replaced, with the Carling Knockout Cup muscling into its space in the 2023/24 season.

The Carling Knockout Cup will follow the same format of the Telkom Knockout Cup, traditionally known as the League Cup, where the 16 DStv Premiership sides will be drawn in a straight knockout tournament until a winner is determined.

The caveat is that the winner of the tournament will play a Carling 11 on 16 December next year where the Carling 11 will feature six players chosen by fans from the teams that didn't make the final, with the other five players coming from the Multichoice Diski Challenge.

When asked about the future of the pre-season Carling Black Label Cup that generally features Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, along with the prize money for the tournament, Premier Soccer League chairperson Irvin Khoza had a shrewd response:

"Watch this space with regards to that, but the prize money will be substantial," Khoza said.
