Cardiff Rugby beat Munster as Taulupe Faletau's stunning debut seals win

Aled Summerhill's late try helped Cardiff kick off their United Rugby Championship season in ideal fashion with a fine 20-13 victory over Munster at the Arms Park.

Winger Summerhill had been called into the side at the last-minute before kick-off, with his try-scoring intervention occurring similarly late in proceedings. It tries from Max Llewellyn and Kristian Dacey to provide the Blue and Blacks with the perfect start to the season.

The only blot on Dai Young's copybook was a first-half injury to Liam Williams, with questions now surrounding the fitness of him and winger Owen Lane, who was injured in the warm-up.

Despite naming perhaps the strongest 23 available to him since taking over Cardiff once again, nothing ever appears to quite run smoothly for Young as Lane limped out before kick-off after rolling his ankle, with eventual hero Summerhill stepping in.

However, that initial setback did little to phase Cardiff out of the blocks. Within four minutes of the kick-off, they were ahead.

Strong carries from captain Josh Turnbull and new signing Taulupe Faletau laid the foundations for Cardiff, before centre Llewellyn proved impossible to stop on the way of the tryline. The young midfielder, who has reportedly impressed in pre-season training, barged through Fineen Wycherley's attempted tackle before regathering his balance to race away from the scrambling defence and score the opening points.

Jarrod Evans couldn't add the extras on the angle, and, while there was the odd early attacking opportunity where Cardiff might have hoped for a little more in the way of points, Cardiff's early contribution to the scoreboard didn't go beyond those initial five points.
