Cardiff City return to home soil this afternoon looking to tighten their grip on top spot.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s table-toppers host Luton Town in what promises to be a fascinating League One clash, with the Bluebirds eager to extend their lead at the summit.

There is a recent hoodoo to shake, though. Cardiff have lost each of their last three home league meetings with Luton — remarkably just one fewer than they suffered in the previous 25 encounters in south Wales combined between 1936 and 2020. The Hatters have also won five of the last six league meetings overall, although Cardiff edged the reverse fixture 1-0 back in August.

Consistency has been a hallmark of champions — but rotation has been a theme of Cardiff’s campaign. The Bluebirds have made 98 changes to their starting XI in League One this season, more than any other side in the division, underlining both the depth and competition within Barry-Murphy’s squad.

Luton, meanwhile, have shown a ruthless streak when in front. They have conceded just three goals all season when leading in League One — the best record in the third tier and seven fewer than Cardiff, who have shipped 10 from winning positions.
