Cardiff City transfer news as deal for ex-Rangers and Newcastle United man draws near and club ready to cash in on striker

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Wednesday, May 11.

Jak Alnwick is reportedly on the verge of becoming Cardiff's first signing of the summer.

According to Sunday Mirror sports editor Darren Witcoop, who used to cover the Bluebirds, a deal to take the St Mirren keeper to the capital 'appears done'.

The former Newcastle UNited and Rangers man has been on Cardiff's radar for some time, with Steve Morison understandably keen to replace the outgoing Alex Smithies, who is now out of contract.

Sources have previously indicated that Cardiff were confident of getting a deal over the line, and it appears Cardiff may well be close to a breakthrough. The 28-year-old is out of contract this summer and available on a free transfer, which will certainly suit Cardiff, who are likely to once again be operating with a meagre transfer budget.

Cardiff are reportedly ready to listen to offers for striker James Collins this summer.

According to Football Insider, the Bluebirds are ready to cash in on the 31-year-old in a bid to fund a new striker in the upcoming transfer window. Collins has largely struggled to hold down a regular place in the City first team since the appointment of Morison back in November, and has made just two outings since the start of February.

Collins also scored just three goals for the Bluebirds last season, with his first-team opportunities further harmed by the loan signings of Uche Ikpeazu and Jordan Hugill.

This is just the latest report to suggest that Collins could well be moved on, with the player entering the final year of his contract in the capital.
