Cardiff City 3-1 Luton Town: Perry Ng stunner helps Bluebirds extend lead at the top
Cardiff City extended their lead at the top of League One to four points after a breathless 3-1 victory over Luton Town.
First-half goals from David Turnbull, Joel Colwill and a thunderbolt from Perry Ng helped the Bluebirds see off a talented Luton side, who were simply blown away by Cardiff cranking up the gears in a 45-minute blitz.
Second-placed Lincoln City were held to a 1-1 draw by third-placed Bolton Wanderers, meaning Brian Barry-Murphy’s side not only strengthened their grip on first place but also moved 10 points clear of the play-off places.
The Bluebirds flew out of the traps. Ollie Tanner was at the heart of everything early on, first feeding Omari Kellyman in the box before bending a low effort inches wide from 20 yards. Moments later, Joel Colwill wriggled free and found Tanner again, whose deflected strike brought the first corner of the afternoon.
From that spell of pressure came the opener on 11 minutes. Colwill, surrounded by four white shirts, somehow carried the ball into the area and had the composure to square for David Turnbull. The Scot did the rest, sweeping a first-time finish into the bottom corner with assured precision.
But Luton responded. After a warning shot from Kasey Palmer fizzed wide, the visitors were handed a route back into the contest on 18 minutes. Joel Bagan brought down Isaiah Jones as the winger raced through on goal. Referee Ollie Yates pointed to the spot and cautioned Bagan, with visiting players calling for more.
Jordan Clark stepped up and, despite Nathan Trott diving the right way, buried his penalty into the corner to level matters.
