Cardiff City 1-2 Luton Town: Bluebirds' survival hopes take major dent after throwing away lead against Hatters

Cardiff City's chances of surviving relegation took a major dent after a 2-1 defeat by fellow strugglers Luton Town on a dreadful night for the Bluebirds.

On a dismal night for the Bluebirds, they relinquished the lead Calum Chambers had given them with goals from Jordan Clark and Thelo Aasgard, while also losing talismanic midfielder Aaron Ramsey in what looks like another serious injury.

It sees Cardiff drop to within one point of the relegation zone on a night which will worry Bluebirds supporters, who booed as the final whistle rang out at full-time. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Riza made four changes to the side which lost at Sunderland at the weekend, with Aaron Ramsey coming back in to captain the side, alongside Will Alves, Will Fish and Alex Robertson.

But the opening 20 minutes was a true indicator of why these two teams are at the bottom of the table battling against relegation. The lack of quality and composure on the ball from the vast majority of the 22 players on show was so, so poor. It took 20 minutes before the first proper shot was registered, with Dimitrios Goutas turning a Ramsey cross just wide of the mark.

Cardiff then had their small period of dominance in the half, with the lively Alves sparking one or two attacks, one of which saw Rubin Colwill drive down the right before pulling a pass back to Yousef Salech, who lifted a 20-yard effort over the bar first time.

Ethan Horvath was rarely called into action, but one moment of quality - a scorching volley from Liam Walsh from outside the area - certainly caught his attention, with the American having to fly to his left to parry the effort away.

There was no surprise when boos rang out around Cardiff City Stadium at the break.
