Cardiff City 0-2 Preston North End: Riza kicks off life as permanent boss with defeat as Bluebirds now winless in six
Omer Riza began his tenure as permanent Cardiff City boss with a home defeat by Preston North End courtesy of a goal from his own player and a late Milutin Osmajic strike.
Calum Chambers turned the ball into his own net at the beginning of the second half before an egregious Dimitrios Goutas error allowed Osmajic in during stoppage time at the end of the game, consigning the Bluebirds to yet another poor result, which now takes their record to winless in six and just one in their last eight games.
It leaves Cardiff still in the relegation zone with one game in hand over most of their rivals, but even so this was a worryingly toothless attacking display despite two goal-line clearances from the visitors, who set - and stuck-to - their game plan perfectly.
Cardiff look like they have forgotten how to win and given the precarious nature of the position in which they find themselves in the table, that is a major concern.
What Riza would have wanted above all else is a win in his first game as permanent manager following the postponement of the game against Watford at the weekend. However, for all of Cardiff's dominance with the ball, they struggled to open up a North End side which had set up to soak up the little pressure the hosts applied to them.
And Paul Heckingbottom's side did that well and Cardiff, lacking confidence in key areas, found it tough to penetrate the white wall.
The visitors also looked dangerous on the break, too. In fact, the first chance of the tie saw former Bluebird Josh Bowler turn Joel Bagan inside and out before testing Jak Alnwick's palms at the near post.
A quick look up at the stadium clock told us that it was half an hour before Cardiff forced Freddie Woodman into any meaningful action. This
