Car flipped onto its roof following two-vehicle collision on M56

A car flipped onto its roof following a crash on the M56, near Manchester Airport.

Emergency services were called to the collision, involving two cars, just before 3.15pm this afternoon (Wednesday September 7). It happened between junction 7 (Bowdon) and 6 (Hale Four Seasons) on the eastbound carriageway.

During the crash one of the cars overturned, National Highways confirmed. There are no casualties.

A National Highways spokesman said: "Two lanes on the M56 eastbound between junctions 7 (Bowdon) and 6 (Hale Four Seasons) are currently closed after a collision involving two vehicles. One of the cars has overturned.

"National Highways, police and fire were called to the incident at 3.13pm. National Highways recovery is now en route to the scene to reopen the lanes as soon as it is safe to do so."

Traffic was held until around 3.55pm according to an update on traffic monitoring website Inrix. All lanes reopened around an hour later.

A spokesman for Inrix wrote:

Queueing traffic due to earlier accident on M56 Eastbound from J7 A556 Chester Road ( Bowdon ) to J5 (Manchester Airport). Travel time is around 45 minutes. All lanes have been re-opened. Traffic was briefly held, delays towards and leaving Manchester.

North West Ambulance Service has confirmed that there have been no casualties as a result of the collision

Just one lane is closed now, according to Inrix.
