Car ends up on its roof following multi-vehicle smash

One car ended up on its roof following a multi-vehicle smash in Bolton this afternoon. Police, firefighters and paramedics were scrambled to St Helens Road at around 2pm on Monday.

St Helens Road was cordoned off this afternoon near its junction with Morris Green Lane. The fire service said 'several' vehicles were involved.

Pictures from the scene showed a white 4x4 on its roof and a black Range Rover on the pavement. Nearby firefighters appeared to be attending to a BMW which had crashed into a wall at the junction.

One eye-witness, who declined to be named, said: "I saw two cars coming down the road pretty fast and one of them, the BMW, crashed into a wall. The the next thing I knew someone get out of the passenger and does a runner. He must have been injured. There was nobody else in the car. The driving in that area is pretty bad."

He added: "The police and the fire came and it was total chaos."

Another passer-by said: "People are constantly speeding or driving erratically on this road. I use it everyday and hate doing so."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 2pm on Monday (July 22) two fire engines from Bolton fire station and the Technical Response Unit from Ashton fire station attended reports of a crash involving several vehicles on St Helens Road, Bolton.

“Firefighters made the vehicles and surrounding area safe and were in attendance for around one hour.”

The Manchester Evening News has approached Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service for comment.
