Caolan Boyd-Munce set for St Mirren after Buddies beat English rivals to land ex Middlesbrough man

Caolan Boyd-Munce is set to help St Mirren in their Scottish Premiership top six fight after the Buddies beat off stiff competition to land the free agent ace.

The midfielder, who is available after leaving Middlesbrough, will sign a deal for the rest of the campaign, with an option for another season. English League One side Morecambe and several other English clubs had been interested but the Buddies have managed to get a deal over the line. Boyd-Munce has been training with St Mirren over the last few days and has impressed boss Stephen Robinson. The 23-year-old now hopes to help the Paisley club to cement their place in the top six and then push on into the European fight.

Boyd-Munce is also hoping his move can help him push into the full Northern Ireland set-up, where St Mirren No. 2 Diarmuid O’Carroll has just been confirmed as part of national coach Michael O’Neill’s back room team. He is a former Northern Ireland under-21 international, who came through the ranks at Glentoran before he won a move to Birmingham City. The Belfast-born player moved to Middlesbrough last year but only made a couple of appearances before he terminated his contract early at the end of the last window. St Mirren have done really well under Robinson this season and the board are pushing the boat out for what has the potential to be one of the best top-flight campaigns in years.
